Inside Technical Sales Engineer

Location: Mount Airy, Maryland – 100% On-Site
Job Type: Full-Time, Exempt
Salary: $75,000–$95,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications

About the Opportunity

Thermal Devices is hiring an Inside Technical Sales Engineer to join our team in  Mount Airy, Maryland . This is a full-time, 100% on-site position. Candidates must currently live within a reasonable daily commuting distance of Mount Airy. This position is not available for remote or hybrid work. 

This role combines technical problem-solving with customer interaction. You will work directly with industrial customers to understand their applications, help select electric heaters, temperature controls, sensors, and related products, prepare technical quotations, and support opportunities from initial inquiry through order placement.

You do not need previous industrial heating experience. We are looking for someone with strong technical aptitude, curiosity, and communication skills who can learn our products and applications. Candidates with backgrounds in mechanical or electrical engineering, HVAC, controls, automation, instrumentation, manufacturing, process equipment, estimating, or technical industrial sales are encouraged to apply.

What You'll Do

As an Inside Technical Sales Engineer, you will manage customer opportunities from initial inquiry through quotation and order placement while developing the technical knowledge needed to become a trusted resource for customers.

You will:

• Review customer applications, specifications, drawings, and technical requirements to identify appropriate product solutions.
• Recommend and specify industrial electric heaters, temperature controls, sensors, and related process heating products.
• Prepare technical quotations, bids, and proposals based on customer application requirements.
• Work directly with customers to understand their processes, troubleshoot application challenges, and recommend solutions.
• Partner with manufacturers and suppliers on product selection, pricing, availability, lead times, and technical requirements.
• Support outside sales representatives with technical product and application expertise.
• Follow customer opportunities and quotations through the sales cycle.
• Develop relationships with existing customers and identify opportunities for additional products and solutions.
• Prospect and develop new customer opportunities through outbound communication and follow-up.
• Coordinate internally with Sales, Purchasing, Customer Service, and Operations to ensure successful execution of customer orders and projects.
• Develop in-depth knowledge of Thermal Devices' product lines, manufacturers, and industrial applications.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field preferred .
• Candidates with relevant industrial, technical sales, application engineering, manufacturing, or process equipment experience will also be considered.
• Strong technical aptitude and interest in understanding how industrial equipment and systems work.
• Ability to interpret technical specifications, drawings, and customer requirements.
• Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn.
• Comfortable communicating directly with customers and asking questions to understand their applications.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Organized and able to manage multiple customer opportunities and priorities.
• Experience with industrial heating, controls, sensors, instrumentation, automation, process equipment, or similar products is a plus but not required .
