Job Description

Higher Education Sales Consultant

Our client, a well-established higher education publishing company, is seeking a driven Higher Education Sales Consultant to manage and grow its Missouri territory. This consultative sales role focuses on building relationships with college professors and partnering with them to develop textbooks, digital course materials, and interactive learning products.

The ideal candidate is curious, self-motivated, comfortable generating new business, and energized by a combination of campus travel and home-office work.

Compensation

• $70,000 base salary
• First-year bonuses typically range from $10,000–$15,000
• Top performers can earn annual bonuses of $30,000–$60,000+
• Larger territory with strong long-term earning potential

Responsibilities

• Identify and pursue new business opportunities across colleges and universities throughout Missouri
• Meet with professors to understand their courses, challenges, and opportunities to improve student learning
• Recruit qualified professors to develop textbooks, digital products, and interactive course materials
• Generate appointments through cold calling, personalized emails, LinkedIn, campus visits, and creative outreach
• Manage the complete sales process from initial prospecting through signed business
• Maintain relationships with existing authors and expand sales throughout the territory
• Coordinate with internal teams to keep publishing projects progressing successfully
• Manage a healthy pipeline, territory backlog, and long-term account growth
• Work independently from a home office while collaborating with sales leadership and internal support teams

Travel

• Must live in or near the Kansas City area
• Approximately six to seven weeks of overnight travel per semester
• Travel weeks generally involve spending the full week visiting college campuses
• Limited summer travel outside of local campus visits
• Travel schedules are typically planned several months in advance
• Annual company sales meeting in Key West

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required
• At least one year of sales experience preferred; strong sales internship experience may be considered
• Comfortable with cold calling, prospecting, following up, and directly asking for business
• Strong communication and presentation skills, both virtually and in person
• Consultative approach with the ability to ask thoughtful questions, listen carefully, and identify solutions
• Self-motivated and capable of working independently while traveling or working from a home office
• Curious, adaptable, persistent, and motivated by financial growth
• Able to balance new business development, relationship management, and project coordination
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required
